Three Choirs Vineyard

Newent, Gloucestershire, GL18 1LS

Produce: English Wines Sparkling, White, Red and Rose

Their wines have continued to get better and better as the vineyard has aged, and they have developed a unique process of growing modern grape varieties side by side with world-renowned grapes such as Pinot Noir and Bacchus.

When selecting a wine producer for the Artisan Network, Three Choirs Vineyard was an obvious first choice. Set in the idyllic countryside of Gloucestershire, bordered by the Cotswolds to the east and Brecon Beacons to the west, Three Choirs is one of the oldest and largest vineyards in England.

The Three Choirs Vineyard is established on well drained sandy slopes, and the nearby Brecon Beacons acts as a rain shadow (creating dryer conditions) which provide for an ideal and unique micro climate for the grapes to grow and prosper.

Production first began as far back as 1973 when a local wine retailer started harvesting the vines on his small fruit farm. With a little help from the 1976 record summer temperatures and bumper harvest; this small fruit farm continued to expand into the Three Choirs Vineyard.

It is fair to say that Three Choirs Wine were true pioneers back in those days, being one of the first vineyards to produce internationally recognised wines north of the English Channel.

Their wines have continued to get better and better as the vineyard has aged, and they have developed a unique process of growing modern grape varieties side by side with world-renowned grapes such as Pinot Noir and Bacchus. This, along with cultivation methods adopted from the world’s most modern winemakers, gives a strong international flavour to the vineyards.

Their name comes from the local Three Choirs Choral festival held between the cathedral cities of Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester and all the grapes used for their wine are grown on their vineyards ensuring a true authentic fresh taste.
