The Cartwright family produce organic Aberdeen Angus dry aged beef, organic rare breed lamb and poultry, and Saddleback pork from pigs who live their entire lives outside.
It is hard to imagine that Leeds City Centre is merely 5 miles from Swillington Park, an historic estate in the Aire Valley. With over 400 acres of woodland, pastures and ponds, it is a wonderful haven for Swillington's rare breed pigs, organic native breed cattle and sheep, as well as free range organic poultry.
When Ed Cartwright’s Grandmother bought the estate, it was in disrepair. More than 50 years on, life here is thriving, largely because the Cartwright’s are so committed to working with nature and the environment. There are only a handful of organic farms throughout the country including Swillington Organics that farm, butcher and deliver it all!
Slow grown, grass fed, Organic Aberdeen Angus cross Hereford beef is hung for 21 days on the farm before being butchered. Texel, Charalais and Berechon (breeds of sheep) and Rare-breed Saddleback pigs live their entire lives outside, roaming freely. Slow-reared, organic poultry range freely in small groups.
Swillington Farm goes that extra mile by having their own poultry slaughterhouse on site, giving their chickens and turkeys the lowest stress and highest welfare possible. This results in amazing chicken that tastes like it used to.
