Stop burying your head in the sand…… try some Ostrich meat. It’s iron rich and a great way to reduce your fat and cholesterol intake – while still giving you an awesome, savoury, meaty meal.
White House Farm is located on the edge of the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, which is where you will find the Tomlin Family and their wonderful and remarkable ostrich farm.
What makes Ostrich meat so special? Standing up to 9 feet (2.7 metres) tall, with massive bodies, huge overbites and eyes the size of a child's fist, an ostrich is an imposing bird to say the least. They're the largest birds alive, and have been known tp kill a lion with one swift kick, which certainly keeps the Tomlin family on their toes during mucking out time! They are also the fastest things on two legs, reaching speeds of up to 43 miles per hour (70 kph), which is why their meat is so lean and high in protein.
Also, while ostrich meat is poultry, it's red, not white like most other birds. This red meat, which looks and tastes much like beef, is lower in fat, calories and cholesterol than not only beef, but also white meats like chicken and turkey.
With the combination of great taste, nutrition and the versatility in cooking, ostrich meat has rapidly found its way onto the menu of many of the finest restaurants in the world. Chefs like its amazing fresh meaty taste and are finding many exciting ways to prepare and present ostrich.
The ostrich meat you buy from Oslinc is all natural, they do not use any hormones, antibiotics, chemicals or additives in their ostrich cuts.
Fact of the Day - Do ostriches actually bury their heads in the sand? Ostriches don’t actually bury their heads in the sand. This myth comes from a misinterpretation of a defence mechanism. If an ostrich can’t escape a predator by running, it’ll drop to the ground and lie flat. Since its head feathers are tan, like the ground, it looks from a distance like its head has disappeared underground.
