Produce: Dry Sparkling Mead, Floral Mead, Honey.
Their Dry Sparkling Mead is a great tasting, low sugar alternative to Champagne and Prosecco, and is a headline product for the Artisan Network.
MasterChef Gift Card would like to raise a glass of Dry Sparkling Mead to the Northumberland Honey Company and more importantly to the humble Honey Bee, both working together in harmony to create great tasting local honey, Floral Mead and the UKs first Sparkling Mead.
Founded by husband and wife team, Luke & Suzie, Northumberland Honey is a hive of industry dedicated to expanding the bee population whilst providing the highest quality, sustainably produced raw honey. They use this honey to create internationally award winning meads and tasty honey. Luke and Suzie are dedicated bee farmers, breeding bees for over 20 years.
Their Sparkling Mead is made using the traditional French Champagne method (Méthode Champenoise) and is the first of a kind in the UK.
Production involves a second fermentation inside the bottle, giving bubbles synonymous with Champagne, whilst still retaining the delicate floral notes found only in honey.
Floral Mead is in the 'Hydromel' class of meads, also known as Honey Mead Wine. This is a mead that is quite wine-like in character and has been compared to a Reisling White Wine, and has similar earthy flavours to a Pinot.
The final note of this review goes to our ‘Buzzing Best Buddies’…….. Bees pollinate a third of everything we eat and play a vital role in sustaining the planet’s ecosystems. Some 84% of the crops grown for human consumption need bees to pollinate them to increase their yields and quality. So let’s all celebrate these animated bundles of fluff and thank them for all their hard work!
As the poet Kahlil Gibran beautifully put it: “To the bee, a flower is the fountain of life, and to the flower, the bee is a messenger of love.”
