Mike Davies is a true pioneer, resurrecting the unique taste of Dorset Blue Vinny Cheese, which is only made on his Woodbridge Farm, in the unspoilt and beautiful countryside of Dorset.
Woodbridge Farm, in the heart of the Dorset countryside is home to Dorset Blue Vinny Cheese. The 300 year old recipe was resurrected by Mike Davies some 35 years ago. It could once be found in nearly every farmhouse in the county and is still made in the heart of the Dorset countryside.
Mike enrolled the entire family to perfect the recipe, taking over the farm kitchen and his wife's larder. It's still made at Woodbridge Farm, although no longer in the farm kitchen! Today, Dorset Blue Vinny has the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status, an award that promotes and protects names of quality agricultural products
It is still very much a family business - Mike's son, Richard, runs the farm, which is home to 270 Friesian cows on the 580 acre estate. He also grows 140 acres of corn and 100 acres of maize each year. Mike's daughter, Emily, is in charge of the day to day running of the business which has expanded to include a range of handmade chutneys & pickles as well as The Dorset Blue Soup Co.
Their iconic converted horse box can be seen out and about at local shows and festivals, selling ploughmans using Dorset Blue Vinny Cheese, their soups and toasties! They also have a pop-up farm shop at Woodbridge Farm where you can buy their cheese, chutneys and other local produce.
Over the years, Mike and his Dorset Blue Vinny Cheese have won several Great Taste Awards and was one of the original Rick Stein Food Heroes.
They have also featured in many televisions programme such as Escape to the Country and Ready Steady Cook, as well as regular guest slots on local radio.
